CAST Reflection
In regards to the learning styles survey, it did come to a slight shock to me that it said that I worked best with as it said a nonverbal visual style of learning. Now, I knew that I was that kind of learner, but what got me was what it said were the best tools to utilize this. Things like flash cards and the like were said to be very useful to me, but I have found it to myself that they don’t really work for me. That being said it did give me a deeper insight to what I should try to keep up with my learning.
As for the CAST website, I found it to be, well, rather hard to navigate it really. From the homepage, I could not find links to any of the pages we used for this assignment. But I probably just overlooked it or just did not go to the right links to find the links I was looking for.
For the electronic version of Teaching Every Student in the Digital Age, well, I’m not much for the reading of educational textbooks. But, overall, what I did read did so me quite a bit on the view that people have between what education was like, what it is like, and what it needs to be like to be inclusive of any student.
For the two activities that we participated in, I found them not useful to myself. There was a problem with them that they did not want to load properly for me while I was trying to access them so I never really got a chance to actively use them.
I do feel that the use of the materials provided by CAST is a great approach to developing differentiated instruction, but I feel that it does not work in all classrooms. Some classes such as the sciences and maths, especially the upper level of sciences and maths, it is hard to implement that type of technology that is used by CAST.
With that being said, I feel that at this moment, I don’t need to know any more about CAST than I do now.
Assistive Technology Assignment
From the websites and the videos provided on assistive technology for those students with disabilities, I found that there are a lot of information provided to make sure that the students get the best they can. There are many different groups that provide different kinds of technology and that technology is ever being updated to keep up with the field of special education. Though, in truth there were no sites that particularly impressed me, as there wasn't really anything in the links dealing with science education with special education, I whould probably use the sites as a base on how to actively
develop a plan for dealing with a student with special needs.
As for the technology itself, I see it having a great deal of good impact for students with diverse learning needs. It provides many ways for students who need extra needs to get the most out of their education and it also provides for them more opportunities to get ahead in their life.
I, myself, have never had a personal experience with anyone who needed assistive technology.
What I will most likely take away from this assignment is the sources provided. I see these as a very good resource to help with planning how to deal with students that whould have need of assistive technology and how to effectively teach for them.
